How can it benefit your health?

Why add it to your eating pattern?


During my learning to become a Health Coach, we were taught about Phytonutrients at Dr. Sears Wellness Institute. The word was broken down "Phyto means plant, and nutrients mean vitamins and minerals" Dr. Sears.




Phytonutrients provide both anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory

effects. Blueberries are a fruit that has a Phytonutrients content and gives a higher level of antioxidants. Why add phytonutrients to your eating pattern? Phytonutrients "boost the immune system."


Many times when it comes to adding any kind of berries, people, in general, add them to yogurt and cereal. I have a suggestion for you to try making and adding to your eating pattern. The next time you have a taste for ice cream. Consider making time to make homemade fresh blueberry ice cream.


This is another delicious way to adding in phytonutrients, antioxidants, and micronutrients into your eating pattern. Even with nutrient-dense foods, moderation is still encouraged. If you decide to try this phytonutrient ice cream, think about having one scoop instead of two

It is Monday, July 12, 2021, and you just may have had Fresh Blueberries with plain yogurt and warm homemade granola. I have a Nutrient-Dense Ice Cream for you to consider trying. It is made with Fresh Blueberries and Milk. I would suggest you use it when making the Fresh Blueberry Ice Cream instead of adding one cup of Whole Milk to add in one cup of Skim Milk. Skim Milk has lower calories and more Protein.


For the sugar level in this ice cream Fresh Blueberry Ice Cream to make it a Nutrient-Dense Healthy Ice Cream to bring out more of the phytonutrients, I would not add regular sugar. Instead, I would add 1/2 cup of Brown Sugar to the Fresh Blueberry Ice Cream. Keeping the sugar to a modest level of sweetness and including a healthier sweetener to add in for a more balance Nutrient-Dense Ice Cream.


For a healthy eating pattern, I would not include a pinch of salt. This is optional for you to consider. Even if you are an individual that does not have a salt health condition problem for prevention and overall wellness, I would not include the pinch of salt. This is my suggestion for you to consider. Skim Milk " Skim milk and whole milk are also good sources of potassium, which can lower your blood pressure. Milk is a good source of protein, too. One of the benefits of skim milk is that you can get a good amount of protein from just one glass with no added fat."




Blueberry Ice Cream

Delicious Ice Cream made with Fresh Blueberries

Prep Time: 10 Minutes

Cook Time: 10 Minutes

Freeze: 6 Hours

Servings: 8 servings

Calories: 504kcal

Ingredients

4 C fresh or frozen blueberries

2 C sugar

1 Tbsp vanilla

pinch of salt

1 C Whole Milk

1 C half and half

2 C whipping cream

Instructions

1. Puree blueberries in blender

2. Add pureed blueberries and sugar in sauce pan and stir,

warming until sugar dissolves.

3. Refrigerate mixture until cold.

4. Add in vanilla, salt, milk, 1/2 and 1/2 cream, Mix.

5. Pour into ice cream maker and churn.

6. Freeze to allow ice cream to set up and ripen.

4 Cups of Fresh Blueberries

1/2 Cup of Brown Sugar

1 Tbsp vanilla

No Salt

1 Cup of Skim Milk

1 Cup of Half and Half

2 Cups Whipping Cream

Then follow the instructions given by the Author on how to

make this Fresh Blueberry Ice Cream.

Please Note: If you are a Low-Fat Milk drinker and that is what you use and purchase from the grocery store, you can decide if you want to use that instead of the Skim Milk. I gave you a suggestion for more Phytonutrients and added nutrition for you to consider. That does not mean you can not use the Low-Fat Milk. Nutrition Irene Jones
